Planning the Menu For Your 50s Themed Event
Posted by Hip Hop on 6/28/2011
Planning fifties events is always a fun venture. There are invitations to create, activities to do, 50s costumes to find, and decorations to think of. Another great aspect of any party is the food. The right food can make a mediocre party in to a great one.
The food you plan should be catered to the type of event you are planning. Are you planning a more formal event that would require a sit-down food? Is it a sock hop where dessert would be more appropriate? Think of the atmosphere you would like to create, and plan accordingly. Here are some ideas to get you started.
The Formal Dinner:
If you are hosting a formal event where an entire course is planned, serve a traditional fifties meal for your guests. A great menu plan can consist of meatloaf, chicken pot pie, turkey, pot roast, or ham. Be sure to have good side options to go with the meal, such as dinner rolls, mashed potatoes and gravy, and a steamed vegetable or salad.
The Diner Meal:
If you are having a party that is less formal, consider using food items that were popular in many of the diners from the fifties. This includes things such as hamburgers, french fries, hot dogs, chilidogs, and French dip sandwiches. Be sure to use old school, glass coca-cola bottles to bring in the older theme with your drinks.
Desserts:
You can also plan a great menu with themed desserts. Milkshakes and sundaes were popular fifties desserts. You can also serve classic items such as baked pies, rice krispie treats, and fruit salads.
